Crochet has been part of my life for years — in fact, the hat in the photo below is one I made back in high school, shortly after teaching myself to crochet. This winter, what started as a simple plan to use up leftover yarn and clear some space in my craft studio has turned into a full-blown obsession. Playing with endless color and stripe combinations has been such a rewarding way to keep my hands busy on dark winter evenings by the fire.
An unexpected thrill of the process has been collaborating with AI to suggest many of the stripe and color combinations. It’s been really neat to see just how intelligent the generated suggestions are, and also a good lesson for me in learning to give very clear directions. Some of the results can be pretty wild if you’re too vague!
It’s been so much fun to see what creative suggestions come up and bring them to life with yarn! There’s something deeply satisfying about turning yarn into something both cozy and useful.
Since I’m having so much fun, I thought you might enjoy crocheting hats, too, so I’m working on an article about my basic crochet cap pattern that I hope will find a home in an upcoming winter issue of Backwoods Home Magazine or Self-Reliance Magazine.
Of course, the hats are piling up fast — and much like zucchini in the summertime, there are only so many you can give to family before they beg for mercy. Selling a few here and there helps me keep the yarn flowing and the stitches going.
You can find my hats here in the Farm Store when they’re available, with seasonal collections releasing throughout the year — so keep an eye out!
For a little extra fun, I’m also going to do a hat giveaway for our newsletter subscribers. Sign Up Here for a chance to win a handmade hat and stay in the loop with farm updates, new hat and jam drops, and more. The winner will be announced March 1st!
Thanks for following along with my yarn-filled journey — your support keeps me inspired and stitching away.
