New name reveals coming soon!
As we prepare for our first rabbit litters of the year, it’s time to celebrate some of the most important members of our rabbitry—our hardworking breeding does!
Some rabbits come and go, but a few truly earn their place here at Everfree Farm through strong mothering instincts, excellent temperaments, and consistent production. This year, seven new ladies are on track to secure their permanent spots in the rabbitry—and with that, their names!
Four of these girls came to us from another farm in the area, and three were born right here on the farm. Their names will be revealed as we announce successful litters, so it may take a couple of months before all of the new does are introduced.
But not all of our does are a mystery! Our oldest residents earned their names long ago. They are:
Sunbeam – Our only crossbred doe, Sunbeam was a special 40th birthday gift from my friend and mentor Miranda Rommel, of Birdsong Farm. She’s an amazing producer of colorful, fast-growing kits.
Alder & Poplar – Our two beautiful Beveren sisters, a heritage breed. These gentle giants have truly exceeded my expectations in the personality department. Alder’s daughter is one of the rabbits who may earn her name this spring.
Of course, we can’t forget our busy bucks. They work hard, too. This round, we believe Deneb (Broken Blue New Zealand) and Sike (Lilac Beveren) successfully bred our expectant does, and we’re hoping for some beautiful purebred blue and broken blue New Zealand kits in the mix—my personal favorite colors!
With litters expected around February 28th, we won’t have to wait long for our first announcements.
